Description:
A laddered portfolio of
high-quality bonds. US Treasuries, for government guaranteed credit. Municipal bonds, when
personal income tax is the consideration. And, corporate bonds for a higher yield. Laddered portfolios
maintain a higher average yield in dropping interest rate markets, and increase in average
yield in rising interest rate markets.
Risk/Reward:
Risk is limited by intermediate to
short term maturities.
Reward is limited to average portfolio yield.
Example:
An example for a $500,000 bond portfolio is: Purchase $100,000 that mature in each year
out to five years. As the portfolio ages, each maturing year $100,000 is renewed out to
five years. This maintains the average life of the portfolio while increasing the average
yield in the portfolio.
Comment:
The Fixed Income Investment is designed for income with
safety of principal. This investment objective is appropriate for income investors
and as counter-balance to the equity markets. As previously stated this investment style
limits risk, it does not eliminate it. It is important to have good research. Your success
